A Naturopath’s Tale

As a Doctor of Naturopathy, I am concerned with all aspects of my client’s lives.  If I do not become knowledgeable about my clients, I cannot help them change and mend.
When you come into my office, I want you to be calm and relaxed.  There is never a need to fear what I will do to you.  There are no sharp things to poke or prod you with.  In many cases, disrobing is not required.
I will take your history in order to better acquaint myself with you, and you, of course may ask me any thing about my training and experience.
It’s all about health and healthy living.  We will always move in a positive direction toward achieving our goal…wellness.
There are no insurance forms to fill out, as Naturopathy is not considered Medicine.  I regret to say I do not bill for my services, so all visits must be paid in full, at the time of service.
I am a counselor, teacher, and practitioner of wellness and dietary matters.  I advise, rather than prescribe.
I am not a substitute for your Medical Doctor, but I consider myself a necessary adjunct to healing and (hopefully) resolution of disease.
Although I have a strong background in Medical Science, and hold degrees from George Washington University and Saint Francis College (now University)  I will not give medical advice, but stand ready to coordinate with your physician if he or she so desires.

As your Doctor, I will endeavor to teach and instill in you, as my client, a sense of balance as far as living healthfully is concerned.   Like most people in the Naturopathic profession, I came to this because I found myself suddenly and unexpectedly, at death’s door, though I was living what I would call a very healthy lifestyle.
I was a marathon runner and triathlete, a US Navy warrant officer, non-smoker and had lost 60 pounds in 2 years to put me at a trim 160 pounds for my five foot eleven inch frame.  I awoke one morning after my retirement from the Navy by about three months (I had received the Navy’s Fitness Award prior to my retirement), to find myself in the throes of a full blown heart attack.  My cardiologist could not tell me why.  None of my colleagues could tell me why.  It took ten years, but Naturopathy gave me the answer.  Like so many other similar stories, conventional medicine just let me down.
